Disorders of the spine
The spine as the central element
In 2013, more than 220 guests were treated at the Klinik Pirawarth with spinal disorders as the leading diagnosis. Most also had neurological disorders, fractures or surgery to the hip and knee joints as further reasons for rehabilitation. But on average 70 percent had additional problems with the spine.
Guests with the following spinal disorders come to the Klinik Pirawarth for rehabilitation:
- after disc surgery,
- after surgery for reinforcement of two or more vertebrae in the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine (spinal fusion)
- due to vertebral stenosis (narrowing of the spinal canal in the lumbar or cervical spine)
- due to spondylarthrosis (chronic degenerative disease of the spinal joints)
- after a vertebral fracture due to osteoporosis (age-related bone loss)
- or due to consequential posture damage caused by prolonged poor posture or lack of training of the musculoskeletal system
The best help to achieve the objective
Exercise, physical therapy and proper handling of aids are the most important measures on the road to the rehabilitation objective. "Even for the sake of preventing a fall, it is absolutely important to use the proper aids and handle them correctly" says Dr. Fischlein.
Depending on the clinical picture and after medical consultation, all possibilities for physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, occupational therapy and electrotherapy are individually checked and put together in a treatment plan. So there is, for example, the possibility of using different electrical therapies to promote blood circulation, relieve pain or to increase mobility. But there are also relaxation groups because spinal problems are often also due to stress. Psychological care is added if required.
To ensure that everything goes well
Particular attention is paid to the provision of aids. If, for example, a leg length difference or a foot deformity is present, a shoemaker will directly assume the necessary balance work on site. If required, we also treat venous problems with the help of stockings or compresses".
The clinic accepts the procurement of all aids such as walkers, crutches, scooters, electrical appliances, TENS devices or power devices for self-treatment. The guest is also directly given information and addresses for a follow-up by a physiotherapist after leaving the clinic.
Expansion and networking
Orthopedic rehabilitation at the Klinik Pirawarth complies with the latest medical standards. Based on the existing specifications in the performance profile for orthopedic rehabilitation, the therapy scale can accurately be evaluated and modified as required. The gradual improvement of cross-linking with the surrounding Departments of Orthopaedics and Traumatology led in recent years to an increase in occupancy rates. Since mid-2012, it is possible to continue to care for patients as outpatients after an inpatient rehabilitation. For many people, this option is a perfect complement to regaining full domestic autonomy.
Dear Colleagues! All of the assessment team at the Klinik Pirawarth is always open for questions and suggestions and for the exchange of information. We are at your disposal should you wish to discuss with us any special request regarding your patient.
